Lanterman-Petris-Short Act (LPS) Conservatorship
Description/Services Provided
Provides Conservatorship for the person and/or estate of an individual determined by the court to be "gravely disabled" due to mental illness. The conservatorship is established to allow involuntary treatment that will either eliminate or reduce the grave disability to the point of accepting third party assistance. LPS Conservatorship provides the following:
  • Court appointed decision maker
  • Assure needed treatment is provided
  • Protect the person and/or personal assets
  • Act on behalf of the individual
  • Determine the appropriate level of care
  • Monitor treatment plans
  • Work collaboratively with Mental Health
