| Kern County is known as California’s Golden Empire and for good reason.
Where settlers once found gold, including the black gold of oil, people now
discover golden opportunity. Kern County is filled with booming cities and

Located at the southern end of California’s great Central Valley, Kern County
is the gateway to Southern California, the San Joaquin Valley and California’s
High Desert. It is California’s third-largest county in land area, and at 8,073
square miles, Kern County is larger than the land area of Massachusetts, New
Jersey or Hawaii. It is also larger than the areas of Delaware, Rhode Island and
Connecticut combined. |

hosted national championships and was the site of the U.S. Olympic kayaking team’s
last competition before heading to the 2000 Summer games in Australia. The Kern
River Valley is the gateway to the new Giant Sequoia National Monument and is home
