Law Enforcement and Governmental Agencies Served
|
In addition to the District Attorney's Office, Fire Department and Sheriff's Department, the Forensic Science Division assists many Kern County agencies that serve and protect Kern County residents. These include the Agriculture Commissioner, Child Support Services, Environmental Health, Human Services, Mental Health, Parks and Recreation, Personnel and Probation. Other major local public safety agencies served by the Forensic Science Division include the police departments for the cities of Arvin, Bakersfield, Bear Valley Springs, California City, Delano, Ridgecrest, Shafter, Stallion Springs and Taft.
The California Department of Fish and Game, the California Highway Patrol, and the California Department of Corrections, which operates state prisons in the cities of Delano, Tehachapi and Wasco, also obtain scientific services from the lab. Occasionally the lab has assisted the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the United States Air Force and the United States Navy as well.

Prop 36 Testing
|
Among the many agencies served by the lab is Kern County Mental Health, which operates the Prop 36 drug rehabilitation program. Random testing is one of the requirements of participation in this program. Collection and analysis of urine samples is performed by the lab. Collection locations and hours of operation are:
