Economic Development Strategy

On June 8, 2004, the Board of Supervisors contracted with ICF Consulting, Inc., to update and revise the Economic Development Strategy. On April 5, 2005, the Board of Supervisors will conduct a Public Hearing for the purpose of adopting the County of Kern Economic Development Strategy, DRAFT Final Report, April 2005.

The Board of Supervisors approved the County's Economic Development Strategy in June 1999. Implementing the Strategy is key to realizing the County's goals for improving employment opportunities for County residents and a strong expanding economy based on developing businesses in nine industry clusters:

  • High technology
  • Value added agriculture
  • Aerospace
  • Chemicals and plastics
  • Textiles/apparel
  • Financial services
  • Tourism
  • Retirement
  • Film production.

Implementing the Strategy requires a joint venture of numerous entities to assist existing businesses expand and encourage the location of new business in Kern County.
