Mission Statement:
Fleet Services is an operational unit of the General Services Division of the County Administrative Office. Under the direction of Larry Werts, Fleet Services Manager, and 5 A.S.E. Certified Master Technicians, CNG Specialists, and California Smog Technicians, they manage one of the largest vehicle fleets for the County. They provide purchase, maintenance, and repair services for approximately half of the County's vehicles. They schedule maintenance and repairs for vehicles assigned to departments and special districts throughout Kern County.
Vehicle repairs include: Brake service, emissions diagnostic and repair, engine repair and overhaul, oil changes, transmission servicing, special body fabrication and tire repair. Auto Shop services include: Smog inspections, auto parts store room, computerized record keeping for parts and vehicle maintenance.
Outsourcing of certain services, such as routine vehicle washing, oil changes, fueling, and rental vehicle for day use trips, have allowed the Garage staff to increase productivity with reduced staff levels without a negative impact on service levels.
Our mission is to meet the technical and mechanical needs of the County by consistently providing high quality, timely and cost effective services.
Be a safe Driver:
- Buckle up; insist that your passengers also buckle up.
- Stop and pull off the road to read road maps and directions
- Obey all highway and road signs
- Signal every change of direction
- Reduce speeds on wet roads and in fog
- Pull off the road when you are tired
If you are not sure the vehicle you are driving is safe, have it checked out with a reputable mechanic. Don't take a chance, better to be safe than sorry.
