Location/Directions:
  • General Location: This three-acre picnic ground is part of the Metro Recreation Complex on North Chester Avenue in Bakersfield, CA. The picnic ground sits between a sports area and the Kern County Museum. To the north lie the Sam Lynn Ballpark, the Junior Baseball Association Complex, two regulation softball diamonds, a batting range, a gymkhana area, a BMX track and a radio-controlled car raceway.

Fees and Permit Information
  • Permits must be filed in advance, must comply with insurance requirements and must state the earliest starting time of preparations and the number of participants. (This information will help the Parks Department coordinate the use of the deep pits from one group to the next.)
  • Any additional play equipment, including dunkers and merry-go-rounds, must have the prior approval of the Parks Department.
  • Electrical additions must also have prior approval.
  • Groups serving alcohol need Alcohol Permits.
General Instructions:      Pick up key at Kern Parks Department Office, 1110 Golden State Avenue, Bakersfield, prior to scheduled use. Return key (or drop it in the drop box available at the Parks Department office) the day after the event. Non-compliance will forfeit security deposit.

  • Available for reservation by groups

Warnings/Regulations/Restrictions:
  • Groups larger than 2,000 people must provide - at their own expense - chemical toilets and suitable dumpsters.
  • Since park personnel may be working on the grounds as an ongoing part of their duties, at the same time that an event is in progress, cooperation is necessary for the sake of the overall grounds maintenance schedule.
  • Groups expecting the full return of the Security Deposit should encourage the use of the trash containers, clean off all leavings, debris and posters from the tables, lawns, walls and parking lots and leave the facilities undamaged. Overfilling trash containers in excess of 50 pounds each may result in an additional labor charge for trash redistribution.
