Cooling Centers Available
During the summertime, senior citizens and others at risk from heat can find relief at cooling centers across Kern County. Residents using the centers should bring their own books, puzzles or games to pass the time. Water and snacks will be provided thanks to increased funding from PG&E.
For seniors and disabled adults, free bus service is available to and from the cooling centers.
     1) If you are a disabled adult and need a ride to a cooling center, contact Get-a-Lift directly at 661-869-6363.
     2) If you are a senior and wish to apply for a free pass:
             A) Call Kern County Aging and Adult Services at (800) 510-2020 or 661-868-1000.
                 OR
             B) Print the Application for Free Bus Pass then mail or FAX the completed form to Aging and Adult Services.
Cooling Centers are partially funded through a grant from   PG&E

Criteria for opening cooling centers: National Weather Service forecast temperatures (as of the previous day)
  • San Joaquin Valley / Kern River Valley Centers: 105 degrees
  • Mountain Center(s): 95 degrees
  • Desert Centers: 108 degrees
