MAP INFORMATION

While the County strives to maintain the most current version of these maps at this site, no guarantee is made to the completeness of the information shown on them. Our maps (images), vary in file size between 50 KB & 200 KB; however, most of our Case Maps vary in file size between 100 KB & 500 KB, with one or two as large as 1 MB. Images are stored as Group 4 TIF files which are very compressed. For a list of some stand alone viewers that we know will load these images click here. Zone Maps

A Zone Map shows zoning information for that location.

Case Maps

A Case Map shows subdivisions (Tracts, Parcel Maps, etc.), Streets & Highways dedicated to public use, proposed highway alignments, Waterways (rivers, lakes, canals), City limit boundaries, Local Government properties, Easements dedicated to public use (access, drainage, etc.) and recording information about each document.

Parcel Maps

A Parcel Map shows the subdivision of land into Parcels for sale and is recorded in the County Recorder's Office. Parcel Maps typically contain fewer "Lots" than Tract Maps and requirements for improvements (to the property) are less extensive than for Tract Maps.

Tract Maps

A Tract Map shows the subdivision of land into Lots for sale and is recorded in the County Recorder's Office.

Record of Survey Index

A Record of Survey Index shows where, within each township, Records of Survey have been prepared by private surveyors within Kern County.

Record of Survey Maps

A Record of Survey Map shows survey activity, performed by private surveyors, and is recorded in the County Recorder's Office.

Here are some stand alone viewers that we know will load our map images:

ADDITIONALLY PLEASE NOTE: While many image viewers can load TIF files, some can even do it as a plug-in to your Internet browser. Below is a link to a free browser plug-in that we know will work with Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher, Netscape, Opera, Mozilla and K-Meleon:

* AlternaTIFF is free to use for any purpose; however, you will be required to register it before it can be used to view images. You will be told how to register when you install it, or when you first use it to view an image. The plug-in is a 32-bit Windows program, and requires Windows 95 or higher (98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP).
