Kern County District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer is pleased to announce the appointment of Randall Meyer as the new Chief of the Bureau of Investigations at the District Attorney’s Office. On March 10, 2025, Chief Meyer was officially sworn into his new role, surrounded by fellow investigators and representatives from partnering agencies.
Chief Meyer’s appointment follows the recent retirement of former Chief Jared Kadel, who honorably completed his duties on February 21, 2025. Chief Kadel had served in this role since November 2020, playing a pivotal part in reducing crime and improving rural areas of Kern County. We extend our gratitude to Chief Kadel for his exceptional service to the community and wish him a well-deserved retirement.
District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer expressed her confidence in Chief Meyer, stating, “Former Chief Kadel set a high standard that I am confident Chief Meyer will meet. Chief Meyer has not only been one of the most dedicated law enforcement members in this county, but he has done so with exemplary leadership, compassion for crime victims, and a commitment to our community. I look forward to seeing the continued success of the Bureau under his leadership.”
Chief Meyer has an extensive career in law enforcement, particularly within Kern County. His career began in 2001 as a Reserve Deputy with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. In 2005, he transitioned to a permanent role as a Deputy Sheriff assigned to the Metropolitan Courts. Over the years, Chief Meyer served as the Assistant Range Master at the Sheriff’s Shooting Range and was promoted to Senior Deputy Sheriff where he worked in the Sex Crimes and Homicide Units. He later advanced to Administrative Sergeant at the Central Receiving Facility followed by his transferring to the Training Section as the Academy Coordinator. Continuing his advancement, he achieved the rank of Lieutenant and served in the Watch Lieutenant Section before being selected to work in the Professional Standards Unit and the newly created Parks Bureau.
In July 2024, the District Attorney’s Office was proud to welcome Chief Meyer as Lieutenant, a role in which he quickly thrived, demonstrating the same dedication and expertise that had earned him respect throughout his career.
Chief Meyer shared his vision for the future, stating, “The Bureau of Investigations is committed to ensuring the safety and security of our communities while providing unwavering support to crime victims. I will maintain a strong focus on ethical, diligent law enforcement practices that prioritize the well-being of our citizens.”
We look forward to the continued contributions of Chief Meyer as he leads the Bureau of Investigations in its mission to support the prosecutorial efforts of the District Attorney’s Office and to promote cooperation between the District Attorney’s Office and all local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
