The Kern County Board of Supervisors met today as scheduled for Tuesday’s August 25, 2026, Board Meeting. Chairman Phillip Peters (District 1), Supervisor Chris Parlier (District 2), Supervisor David Couch (District 4), and Supervisor Leticia Perez (District 5) were in attendance. Supervisor Jeff Flores (District 3) was absent for the AM session and in attendance in the PM session. The Board proclaimed August 2026 as National Breastfeeding Month in Kern County.

Item No. 4 AM session Board Member Announcements or Reports:
Supervisor Perez highlighted the recent back to school drive in the MLK area, and recognized various community partners, sponsors, and donors for helping make it a success.

Item No. 4 AM session Board Member Announcements or Reports:
Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood announced his retirement from the Sheriff’s Office at the end of this year.

Item No. 10 AM session:
The Board approved the retroactive Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Bakersfield Police Department, to accept funding for the provision of services for the Communication Center, Homeless Co Response, Mobile Crisis Response, Crisis Intervention Team, and Traditional Mobile Evaluation Team (MET) Programs, from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, in an amount not to exceed $413,000.
Item No. 11 AM session:
The Board approved the retroactive sole source Agreement with Community Action Partnership of Kern (CAPK) to support operations of the Safe Camping and Parking Program (Safe Camping), from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, in an amount not to exceed $480,000.
Item No. 16 AM session:
The Board conducted the TRUTH Act community forum regarding local law enforcement agencies interaction with United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement in 2025.

Item No. 28 AM session:
The Board heard a presentation by Kern County Public Health on unpermitted food vendor enforcement efforts for Fiscal Year 2025-2026. The Board received and filed the report.

Items No. 9-12 PM session:
The Board approved contributions to support the following community organizations: KRV Bridge Connection, in the amount of $1,000; Mountain Communities Chamber of Commerce, in the amount of $500; Air Force Association, in the amount of $1,000; Taft College Foundation, in the amount of $1,000; Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Business Education Foundation, in the amount of $1,500; California Writers Club for the Kern County Chapter, in the amount of $500; Crisis Pregnancy Center of Tehachapi, in the amount of $500; Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Business Education Foundation, in the amount of $1,000; Hellenic Community of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, in the amount of $1,000; Golden Empire Youth Tackle Football, in the amount of $1,000; and Edify Live Inc., in the amount of $1,000.
Item No. 16 PM session:
The Board adopted a position letter and authorized the Chairman to sign correspondence to the appropriate officials regarding Assembly Joint Resolution 23 (AJR 23), the proposed division of the State of California into two separate, independent states.
