Clerk of the Board
It is a tremendous privilege to serve the 5th District. My team works tirelessly with our constituents and both local and statewide leaders to build a quality of life where our children are prepared to compete in the workforce, our businesses can flourish, and our families can strive towards upward mobility.
My team and I will do everything in our power to make District 5 safe, clean, and vibrant for all of its residents. We are committed to providing unparalleled constituent service to the families of Lamont, Arvin, Weedpatch, East and Southeast Bakersfield, Oleander and Westchester.
We need to hear from you because we cannot improve government without your ideas, questions and active participation. For us, no problem is too big or too small. This is your government: we are here to serve you.
Kern County Supervisor
Unveiling of Labor and Delivery Unit at Kern Medical
Earlier this September, Supervisor Perez celebrated the grand opening of the new Labor and Delivery Unit at Kern Medical. This new unit provides many new improved amenities such as: a newly expanded postpartum unit, several new OBGYN and Anesthesia specialists and nurses providing in-house 24 hour care, new nurse lactation consultants, a new high-risk pregnancy unit, and a new post-delivery outpatient clinic.
Throughout the year, we have partnered with Houchin Blood Bank to host 3 blood drives! On August 30th, we held our most recent event where more than 100 community members waited in the blazing summer heat to make a donation. In the end we collected a total of 66 pints of blood that helped replenish the dwindling blood supply following the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey.
Virginia Avenue Improvements
On August 18th, Supervisors Leticia Perez and Mike Maggard coordinated with Golden Empire Transit and the Public Works Department to unveil the completion of a nearly yearlong project to improve the Virginia Ave area. Through the use of CDBG and other grant sources, GET and the County of Kern were able to bring much needed improvements to the Virginia Ave and Mount Vernon Ave area. The area now has a large stretch of sidewalk, as well as the installation of new bus stops with fully-shaded benches and LED lighting.
Arvin Water Townhall Meeting
An informational meeting was held in Arvin on March 6, 2014 to provide a unique opportunity to meet local elected officials and County and State representatives and discuss efforts to provide safe drinking water to the residents of Arvin.
