Kern County District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer is honored to announce the 2025 Victims’ Rights Event on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at 5:30pm. The event will commence in the quad area located outside of the District Attorney’s main office located at 1215 Truxtun Avenue in Bakersfield.

This year’s event will be unlike any before, featuring the grand unveiling of the Victims of Violent Crime Memorial, a permanent tribute to lives lost and the strength of those left behind. The memorial will feature an ossuary that will contain the names of every homicide victim in Kern County since its establishment. With the help of law enforcement and community members, more than 4,400 names have been gathered. Behind every name is a life tragically cut short, a family left to grieve, and the dedicated professionals who sought justice on their behalf.

In addition to the memorial dedication, the event will host a candlelight vigil as well as a traditional march down Truxtun Ave.

*Criteria for inclusion in the ossuary: Due to data limitations, the ossuary will include victims of unlawful murder, manslaughter, and felony vehicular homicide, which include Watson murders and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
