The Evidence Submission Portal system will be used both to submit physical evidence to the Kern Regional Crime Laboratory and to provide the results of tests/analyses performed by the lab via a secure URL and in real time.

Authorized agencies can log in to the Evidence Submission Portal to:

• Transmit requests for evidence analysis to the crime lab electronically through a secure internet connection prior to submitting the actual physical evidence.

• View analysis results. This system facilitates information sharing between criminal justice professionals, including responding officers, detectives, and prosecutors.

The Portal is available 24/7, so there is no need to call the laboratory for the status of a report.

1. Use the Evidence Submission Portal System to securely log information about the evidence, including the nature of the evidence, the related offense(s), individual(s) and details regarding the specific analyses requested.

2. Print a laboratory receipt for the evidence from the Evidence Submission/Reporting Portal system.

3. If submitting larger items, call  (661) 868-5367 ahead of time so that the Evidence Control Unit personnel can take them into the evidence bay on the first floor of the building.

4. Submit the physical evidence and/or CD/DVD of digital data along with the laboratory receipt (if available) to Evidence Control Unit personnel at the Kern Regional Crime Laboratory.

Please note that, during the course of forensic examination, the Kern Regional Crime Laboratory reserves the right to conduct any additional forensic work that is required to most fully develop the information available from the evidence submitted, develop investigative leads, or to most effectively use limited samples.  Requests for analysis that are inappropriate for the type of evidence submitted will not be fulfilled.

Agencies submitting evidence for analysis must have a current Simplified Reporting Agreement on file with the laboratory, signed by the agency’s designee. If your agency has not yet signed the agreement, please bring a completed copy with you when submitting evidence.

If you need to see laboratory results on a case that was submitted by a different agency, you must contact the submitting agency directly. All reports are released to the client agency representative(s) that originally submitted the items of evidence for examination and to the Kern County District Attorney's Office. One exception are Firearm Database hit notifications which are sent to representative(s) from each law enforcement agency that submitted related evidence.

All other requests for information shall be released as ordered by a court of law.
