Home MenuInternships and Post-Bar Clerkships
The Kern County Public Defender’s Office offers summer internships and post-bar clerkships for law students interested in receiving hands-on experience advocating for clients in the criminal justice system. Certified law clerks can make appearances in court under the direct supervision of an appropriately licensed attorney. We accept 1Ls and 2Ls in our downtown Bakersfield office, to work with either misdemeanor or felony attorneys. We also have undergraduate internships available during the summer as well as throughout the school year. While most positions are unpaid, we have limited funding for post-bar clerkships. We accept applications on a rolling basis, with most law school summer clerkships finalized around March.
