The County's  Injury  Illness Prevention Program (IIPP)  ensures that safety regulations are implemented and maintained . This includes safety meetings, inspections, and training. The IIPP protects County employees and other County interests from risk and harm. The safety program emphasizes the risk management process of recognizing possible exposures, implementing appropriate techniques, ensuring proper training and monitoring for results.

The County's loss-prevention program helps County departments develop loss control techniques, implement appropriate safety processes and procedures, and monitor for results. It also assists with regulatory compliance and ensures that health and safety guidelines are followed.

If an employee or his or her department wish to arrange for an ergonomic workstation assessment on a proactive basis in order to prevent future injury:

• The employee should fill out the ergonomic checklist and review it with their supervisor.
• If the employee still wishes Risk Management to assess their work area, the department should contact the Loss Prevention Specialist.

What does an evaluation include?

At the ergonomic evaluation, the representative will review the ergonomic checklist and discuss ways to optimize the workstation setup to maximize the employee's comfort and minimize the risk of work-related injuries while using their computer. Components to be reviewed include:

• chair adjustments
• monitor height and viewing distance
• keyboard and mouse placement

The Loss Prevention Specialist assists departments with conducting site specific inspections to ensure the health and safety of County employees.  Inspection items include:

• Proper placement of fire extinguishers
• Slip-trip hazards
• Emergency evacuation routes and procedures
• Post accident/injury inspections

The Loss Prevention Specialist assists departments with any Cal-OSHA interactions. This includes complaint letters, on-site investigations, inspections and citations.
