Escape the Heat: Cooling Center Information and Current Status

Senior citizens and others at risk from extreme heat can find relief at cooling centers across Kern County. Cooling center information will be updated daily.


Construction at Delano Memorial Park

Beginning Monday May 14, 2018 through Thursday May 31, 2018 various construction and park improvement projects will be performed at Delano Memorial Park, including re-roofing of buildings in the immediate park area.  Projects to remove the existing chain link fence, addition of car parking bumpers, ADA parking signs, and an ADA concrete walk from the parking lot to the existing picnic shelter will take place Monday, May 21, 2018 through Tuesday, May 29, 2018.  Parking will be limited during the construction period.


Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) Funding Requests to be discussed at April 25th Meeting

The Kern County Parks and Recreation Commission has received 4 requests for funding for the 2018 - 2019 Fiscal Year.  The proposals will be discussed at the Commission meeting on April 25, 2018 at 6:30 P.M at 1115 Truxtun Avenue, 3rd Floor Multipurpose Room.

Vehicle Traffic and Reservations at Hart Park Restricted on May 19th from 7:30 am - 10:00 am

On May 19, 2018 the Kern County Veterans Service Department and Patriots of Kern will conduct the "Dog Tag Dash" 10k, 5k, & 1 mile race event from 7:30 am - 10:00 am starting at Hart Park - Section 12. During this time, vehicle traffic will be limited inside the park. Reservations for Hart Park sections will also be closed to the public until 10:00 am. Kern County Parks & Recreation manages 8 regional parks, 40 neighborhood parks, and 25 public buildings, supervises three golf courses and landscapes 76 county buildings. Our facilities include fishing lakes, Veterans, Senior, Community and Recreation Buildings, group and individual campgrounds, boating, sailing, a soccer park, and museums.
